Measure 114 Delayed?
Friday, September 25th, 2026
The Oregon Supreme Court held oral arguments on Measure 114 way back in November 2025. It has been nearly a full year of complete silence.
A prominent conservative commentator remarked on the air that the Court is intentionally sitting on its opinion until after the upcoming election. Looking at the timeline, it is hard to reach any other conclusion.
Measure 114, approved by voters in 2022, would establish a permit-to-purchase requirement for firearms and restrict magazines over a certain capacity. The measure has faced ongoing legal challenges and has not yet been fully implemented.
There is no legitimate judicial reason to stall a decision affecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding Oregonians for this long. And if this delay is meant to avoid a pre-election backlash, that is simply unacceptable. Judges are supposed to be independent arbiters of the law, not political strategists timing decisions around ballot boxes.
Oregon voters deserve a judicial system that operates with transparency, not a deceptive or politically driven process aimed at delaying decisions that many will disagree with. Sportsmen and women across Oregon remain hopeful this is not the case, but all indications suggest otherwise.
