  • Measure 114

    Oregon Measure 114, the Changes to Firearm Ownership and Purchase Requirements Initiative, was on the ballot in Oregon as an initiated state statute on November 8, 2022. The ballot measure was approved.

    • Require permits issued by local law enforcement to buy a firearm;
    • Require photo ID, fingerprints, safety training, criminal background check, and fee payment to apply for a permit; and
    • Prohibit manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, possessing, using, or transferring ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds and make violations a class A misdemeanor.
  • Roadless Rule

    The existing protection

    The 2001 Roadless Rule generally restricts road construction, road reconstruction and timber harvesting in designated inventoried roadless areas on National Forest System lands, subject to specified exceptions.

    The proposed change

    The Forest Service is proposing to rescind that national rule, potentially giving land managers greater flexibility to consider roads, timber projects and other management activities in areas currently covered by it.

  • IP28

    Oregon Initiative Petition 28 — would eliminate the legal exemptions that currently protect hunting, fishing, trapping, and farming from Oregon's animal abuse statutes (ORS 167.315–167.333).

    As you have heard by now, the Oregon Secretary of State's office confirmed exactly what we were hoping for: Initiative Petition 28 (IP28) fell well short of the signatures required to reach the November ballot.

    Here are the numbers. Of the 142,000+ signatures they submitted to the state, final verification cleared only 104,262 valid signatures. They missed the mark by more than 13,000.
