2007 OHA State convention makes a solid hit

Some happy campers celebrate winning the Complete Camp Raffle.

The Oregon Hunters Association’s State Convention returned to central Oregon this spring at the new Riverhouse Convention Center on the banks of the Deschutes River on May 19, hosted by the OHA Bend Chapter. More than 500 banquet guests were treated to a gourmet meal (the dessert alone was worth the trip to the high desert). The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s 12 dream hunts for deer, elk, antelope, bighorn sheep and mountain goat were drawn that night. Auctioneer Jeff Mornarich of I-5 Auctions in Roseburg sold an Oregon Access & Habitat Statewide Deer Tag, valid for a three-month season this fall, and it was purchased by a familiar face at OHA’s annual conventions. The A&H auction tag was the highlight of an awesome array of auction items that featured hunts (including an African safari), fishing trips, weekend getaways, top-quality sporting goods, fine wildlife art and much more. In all, more than 100 items were offered in live and silent auctions. Local artists Dan Rickards and Rod Frederick were on hand to personally sign works of theirs in the live auctions. Guest of honor John A. Nosler was present when we raffled off a Nosler Custom Model 48 Sporter valued at $2,500! Another guest won a Weatherby in the second annual Les Schwab Rifle Raffle, while others won shopping sprees at Sportsman’s Warehouse. One in 10 purchasers of the Trophy or Lone Wolf packages took home Henry Golden Boy rifles. Jeff Janssens of Adventure Outfitters was honored for his contributions to OHA’s conventions and special raffles and auctions conducted to benefit Oregon’s Hunt of a Lifetime program, which provides dream hunts for children with life-threatening illnesses. Other exciting raffles included the Complete Camp Raffle featuring a wall tent and frame, complete with tent stove and accessories to make a comfy camp. The general raffles featured 75 items, including a dozen guns, high-end optics and top-quality outdoor gear. There were complimentary drawings for kids, OHA life members and – on Armed Forces Day – our veterans. All together, more than 100 items worth over $20,000 were given away! Make plans now to attend OHA’s spectacular 25th Anniversary State Convention on May 17, 2008, at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City!

This father and son team won the first two rifles on the wall of Guns!
